Over the last several years I have gotten to know a generous man and his family. He has donated hundreds of hours to St. Lawrence Church, the sisters at Villa, Mary Queen of Angels Bingo, the Boy Scouts and his own church. In the last few days he and his wife have received the news that their beautiful daughter has multiple tumors, probably malignant that must be removed on June 6. Please pray with me that God will give them strength and that the surgery will be successful.
Lord, may each new graduate, whether, teacher, nurse, doctor, lawyer, priest keep you in their sites. Open our minds that we might know your way, our eyes that we might see your people, our ears that we may really listen, our lips that our words will be always kind, our hands and feet that we might swiftly do your will, and our hearts that we may always know your love. We ask this through your Son Jesus, the perfect model. Amen.
This week at the Children's Clinic at St. Lawrence a little boy with what his parents thought was a stomach virus was diagnosed with leukemia. Please pray for him, his parents and family at this very difficult moment in their lives. Also, please pray for the student and clinician that made the diagnosis. Amen.
Lord, author of all life, both the here and now and the future, give us the strength to walk on the path set before us. Help us to see your grace even in difficult times. The son of my friends has died. He was still a young man. Please be with his family in these difficult days and years ahead. Give them your strength, help them to continue to know and to feel your love and presence. Help the wife and children of this man as they continue on life's journey without his physical presence among them. Help us all to know your love through difficult times. We ask these things through your Son who walkeAmen.
Lord, The words of Jesus are remembered. He said that he would rebuild the temple after three days. Your gift to us is recalled in each of the liturgies this week. Your intimate sharing with us, called communion, with the washing of the feet and Jesus' offering his body and blood to us in the Eucharistic Sacrifice which we are able to celebrate to this day. Today is Good Friday, when the awesome sacrifice of the cross is recalled. This day recalls both the darkest and brightest moments of our history as your People. Remember all of your people, but especially those who are lost and unable to feel your presence May each of us see the light of your grace shining behind that cross and waiting for us, to be with us always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
With Holy Thursday we mark the end of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Triduum. There is only one Mass said that day in each church - the Mass of the Lord's Supper. The three-day celebration of Easter begun on Holy Thursday and ending on Easter Sunday is reminiscent of the Gospel of John: "Destroy this temple and on the third day I will raise it up". We continue the celebration with adoration or other local traditions - like the tradition of visiting several churches to pray. On Friday the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord's Passion is celebrated and there are also Stations of the Cross. No Mass is celebrated between Thursday evening and the Easter Vigil. Our actions on these days are our prayer of Thanksgiving to God our Father for the gift of his Son. May you go forth from Easter with great jo
Lord, you who made the first covenant with your people, help us to know not just the church of history, but the church revealed in history. Help us to be open to your Holy Spirit, right here and right now!
Lord, I pray that we may experience your grace as we journey with your Son, Jesus this Lenten season. Inspire us through the many opportunities found in our parishes and communities to pray, act, and give alms.
For what shall we pray?
For protection from the enemy for my 11yo daughter.
In this Lenten season, I pray for the Church and for those who lead her, that they may see the Church, not of history but as revealed to us in history.
Please also join me in praying for a friend who is experiencing illness amongst several family members.
