Although, I had siblings I was raised as an only child, but with a keen sense of self, love, family and community. My early religious experiences account for much of who I am today. My great aunt is lovingly referred to by me as "Momma" and let there be no doubt about it I was Momma's baby girl.
Momma was loving, caring, overly protective and always available. My Momma passed away on January 30, 1983. twenty-nine years ago. Undoubtedly, that was the saddest day of my life. Just thinking about it still brings a flood of tears.
Now I think how awesome to have been so loved by another and to be able to love in return. It is her love that has sustained me through the years. She is an everlasting presence in my life and the strength behind my stamina and fortitude.
I arrived at this peaceful place through the teachings and beliefs of my church. The simple belief that there is a life after death and that it is an everlasting life filled with the Glory of God who is all merciful. Everytime I whisper the words, "Christ have mercy," I believe it to be true.
