I have often seen the bumper sticker that proclaims: “Be patient…. God is not done with me yet!” In a similar way the prophet Habakkuk intercedes for his people by crying out to the heavens “I cry out to you ‘violence’ and you do not intervene” Habakkuk 1:2. In this prophecy, God proclaims that He is not done yet and encourages Habakkuk to wait upon the future vision’s fulfillment. St. Paul encourages Timothy to “stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands” 2 Timothy 1:6. The gift of God shared with Timothy may have subsided like a smoldering campfire. But St. Paul urges Timothy to refresh and renew God’s gift of faith and hope. In the Gospel, looking upon the times they were living, the disciples ask Jesus, “Lord increase our faith….” More than ever in our own day and age; as we look to the violence around us, we too cry out to the heavens asking for the Lord to intervene. We too pray to the Lord…. “Lord, increase our faith, increase our hope, and increase our charity.” Each time we pray the Lord’s Prayer we pray, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done.” But an increase of faith and hope for the future needs to be accompanied by an increase of love. That means that we need to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Recently members of our parish communities have come together respectfully to engage in “holy conversation,” to speak to each other, learn from each other, assist each other to grow ever stronger in that gift of love and concern for one another. These two events are the beginnings of something great that can lead us to holy transformation. May the Lord continue the good work of healing and hope that He has begun; assisting us in stirring into flame the gifts of Spirit given to us….. for we are truly #ONEBODY.
