It is said that good leadership is manifested in a number of ways: delegation, empathy with constituents, not being afraid to get one’s hands dirty in the job, etc. All these traits Jesus begins to manifest during the beginnings of His ministry among us. After the affirmation of His Father during His Baptism, His acceptance of His mission at His hometown synagogue, and His security of His mission amidst opposition, (last Sunday’s lesson), Jesus now acknowledges that to accomplish His mission He requires assistance. Wisely, while speaking to a crowd, Jesus uses the lake’s natural amplification ability to speak to his larger audience. After the miracle of the large catch of fish, Jesus begins to accept assistance from those who would form His inner circle of students, His disciples. Humbled by His presence Simon declares, “Leave me Lord for I am a sinful man” only to have Jesus invite Him to a new adventure in Simon’s life. Simon willingly leaves all to embrace this new adventure. Jesus needs and calls each one of us to a new adventure in discipleship. We may be “last in and first out” each weekend at church but Jesus will continue to knock on the door of your heart. Jesus wants more from you; more of you. Surrender to His invitation and your life will never be the same. “Here I am Lord…..send me!” Isaiah 6:8.
WE’LL LEAVE THE LIGHTS ON FOR YOU…. In most of all Catholic Churches throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, confessions will be available every Wednesday during our Lenten Season from Ash Wednesday to Holy Week at 5:00PM to 7:00PM. At each of our three churches: St. Martin de Porres, St. Lawrence, and Nativity we’ll be leaving the “Lights on for YOU!” At St. Lawrence and St. Martins we also have Adoration of the Holy Eucharist at this time. Come and allow Jesus to save you from your sins.
