As this New Year begins we will be turning out attention to the Gospel of Luke. However to begin this new year the Church selects a fine passage from the Gospel of John. In the Gospel of John everything is more than what it is portrayed to be. Unlike the Gospel of Luke, “Mary,” the mother of Jesus is mentioned only twice: in the passage for today at the wedding feast at Cana and at the cross. Both times Jesus unusually addresses her as “woman.” But Mary, in these passages is more than just the mother of Jesus; she represents the first woman, the new Eve. Jesus refers to the fact that His hour had not yet come and that we know means His time on the cross. But at the woman’s urging it is the time for the betrothal and for that wedding preparation to begin. Jesus’ three years of ministry will be the betrothal, His cross the consummation, and His resurrection the New Life of the saved human race in God’s Kingdom. How fitting it is that we begin the new year of grace with this introduction. As we begin this new year of Mercy, please accept my most profound “thank you” for all the ways our parish has received and stuck with our new ministry team. This first Advent and Christmas Season together were filled with many challenges but also with a myriad of blessings. Our unique ministerial team has challenged us to stretch our understanding of the universality and beauty of our “catholic” faith. However, do not be mistaken, for this experience of Church is stretching the ministerial team as well. May the Lord bless our new year in relationship together. As the Gospels record there will be many blessings along the way. Let us continue to thank the Lord for his most unexpected blessings.
PAD-A-PEW located in Ohio, is the company who has been contracted to beautify our Church building by the installation of custom padded seats. A special “Thank You” to those particular benefactors who made this addition to our Church possible. This addition, along with two new speakers and amplifier which replaced some older equipment by yet another parish benefactor, should assist in the modification of our sound quality within the Church building thus making it easier to understand what is being proclaimed within our church building. Thank you Lord for this blessing and may you continue to assist us in the challenges that still lie ahead for us.
