One of the most famous passages in all of the New Testament Scripture has to be that proclaimed as our Gospel Reading this weekend: “God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son that who so ever believes in Him shall not parish but shall have everlasting life” John 3:16. This unconditional love of God is witnessed throughout the whole of Biblical history. The first reading second Chronicles, gives evidence for why God should abandon His chosen people, their infidelity. Yet God would work through the Gentile King Cyrus to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. In His Son Jesus, God comes to save us sinners. This Holy Season of Lent is a time to face our sinfulness. These days we as the Catholic Church are yet again humbled by the revelation of the actions of some of our brother priests. Indeed we are all sinners but we in leadership have a greater responsibility to those entrusted to our care. With our bishop and the whole fraternity of my brother priests we are sorry for the incredible pain and suffering we have inflicted upon any youth entrusted to us. We welcome those who have been harmed to have the courage to come forward and bring to the light those sins committed in the dark. We continue to pray for healing for the many innocent victims and their families. We pray with contrite hearts for God’s forgiveness of us the ministers of His Church as well.
