Many times in the Bible the people complain to God, “Your ways are not fair….” Many times the authors of the Psalms draw God’s attention to the fact that the wicked seem to always prosper while the righteous seem to always be suffering. Where is the fairness about that? Isaiah the prophet helps remind us that “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD” Isaiah 55:8. Sometimes we don’t see the whole picture that the Lord All-Knowing God beholds and sees. In this weekend’s Gospel story, related by Jesus Himself, the workers hired first argue about being treated unfairly by their employer though he cheated none of them but was just generous with his funding distribution. There appears to be a disconnect sometimes between fairness and justice. Fairness treats everyone equally. Justice helps all to share in the blessings. I’m sure the families of those hired last, through no fault of their own, were delighted to have had the same opportunity to enjoy their daily bread as those hired earlier in the day.
LOW GLUTEN HOSTS are now available at every weekend mass here at St. Lawrence. Please make your need know to us before mass begins. Thank you.
SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKERS are on hand at all three of our parishes this weekend: at St. Lawrence, Moses Ikuelogbon; at St. Martin de Porres, William Papaj; and at Nativity, Deacon Timothy Theriault. All three are students of Theology at Christ the King Seminary and in formation for the Holy Priesthood. We pray for their faithfulness to their vocation and support our Diocesan Seminary with our offerings.
